CELEBRATING 2013!

Hi Everyone!

Wow! What a year ! 2013
The year started off with me hobbling around on what I thought was a sprained ankle.
It turned out it was broken? That was why it took so long to get better!
I still managed to teach the Pelican Workshop in January though.
Soldier on is my motto! On reflection.... this can be stupid!

Looking back I have had a very productive 2013!
Evening classes and my one day workshops throughout the year being very successful!
So much so that I have repeated a couple of themes, such as the Koi Fish and The Lorikeets!

We painted Chooks, Blue Wrens, Emus, Pelicans and Owls and a whole lot more!

I myself was a student at a couple of workshops this year!
In June I attended Tracy Verdugo's Paint Mojo 2 day workshop!
This workshop introduced me to Golden Fluid Acrylics!
I have now fallen in love with these paints!

Then late June I trekked up to Maryborough Queensland to attend a 5 day workshop with Jenni Kelly!
I always have a fabulous time when I go up there and love catching up with Jenni and a couple of other Artists who also go every year. It is always a very productive workshop!

I was quite pleased to see my painting "The Market"was published in the October Australian Artist, in an article about the workshops up in Maryborough.

Then in September "Animal Voices" the Wisdom card deck I did the artwork and Chip Richards did the writing for, was finally released through Blue Angel Publishing. It was very exciting!

If you haven't purchased a set yet, and would like a signed copy you can visit my website
www.susanfarrellart.com.au

Late October I did Flora Bowley's online course! Very inspiring!
She is also an advocate for Golden Fluid Paints!

In November I introduced my new workshop "Serendipity" Intuitive!
My backgrounds have always been abstract and very intuitive.
But I have then painted my detailed Animal or Birds on the backgrounds.
I have discovered how much I love treating the whole painting as intuitive.
Just letting what wants to discovered evolve through the layers. This is also a lovely technique to teach as it has no rules or predetermined outcome. The Student can just play and allow their own creativity to go where it wants to. Everyones painting is individual!

What we discovered in that first "Serendipity" workshop that some of the students wanted to stop at the abstract stage of the layers. Their paintings were gorgeous and vibrant as they were. No need to go on and pull out what lies within....

That is now a subsequent Workshop for those who do want to take it further.
It will be called "Beyond The Veil".

"Serendipity" Workshops are planned for Feb (FULL) and March 2014

In Mid November I began my personal journey into the healing realms of Reiki

I completed my Reiki 1 on the 23rd November.
That is me in the front second in from the right.
I am looking forward to continuing with my Reiki 2 early 2014.

So here we are all the way into December 2013!
Busy time of year... I had so much planned to cram in!
Then silly me! Fell out of our fairly high bed on the 7th Dec.
No, I was not inebriated! Quite sober in fact ... not sure how it happened?
I woke up on the floor feeling very sore!
Stuffed up my poor old back!
So, yes I spent Xmas 2013 hobbling around just like I did Xmas 2012 with my broken ankle.
This time I tried to be sensible and not "soldier" on. Sara, my daughter informed that it was indeed the Universe telling me to "slow down"... so I sort of did?

We had a wonderful Xmas with my kids and loved having them come down and stay over the break.

I hope you and your Families all had a lovely Xmas and New Year celebrations!

Looking forward to keeping in touch with you all throughout 2014!
Bye for now!

KOI FISH WORKSHOP

Hi Everyone!

Well yesterday we had the Koi Fish Workshop down in the Clayton Community Centre.
Sponsored by the Clayton/Clarinda Art Society. We used their lovely Art Room which was fully equipped with lots of easels and tables and situated right next door to their Kiosk. Very convenient for those of us who have a soft spot for a lovely cappucino. :)

I had five very enthusiastic and talented Students!
Margaret, our Host is the resident Art teacher. She runs weekly art classes from
The Clayton Community Centre.

Everyone busy painting!

The day just flew by! Lots of chatting and getting to know each other. Delighted to find two
established Artists amongst the group. Learning some new techniques.
Lots of scraping and playing with paint and colour. I always find it amazing to wander around the room and seeing how every student's painting turns out different. Each one
wonderfully unique! All our Koi Fish had such personalties.

Here They Are Completed!

So happy that everyone got theirs finished and some even signed them as well. :)
Thank you to a lovely group of Ladies!

EVERYONE IS CREATIVE

Hi Again,

Just sharing a post that I made on Facebook last week.

What is Intuitive Painting?

Cast your minds back to when you first went to Kindy or Primary School. We were all given paper and paint to create out masterpieces. Our Mums and Dads would pin them on the fridge to show them off.
Everyone in the class was treated equally as far as their creativity was concerned. My eldest son actually went through a phase of painting everything black. I was convinced there was something wrong.. but his wise teacher told me that indeed it was normal and lots of little boys go through the black stage. He was painting intuitively..what he wanted to express. No one was there to tell him it was wrong ( except his silly Mum )

Through our early primary school years we were encouraged to express ourselves with out artworks. But as we got older, and definitely once we hit secondary school, rules started to take over. Paint between the lines, you can't draw, you aren't creative!  Between misguided teachers and our own self doubts and egos we stopped our creative endeavours. More structured schooling began to take over. No more painting, no more creating. There were some of us that did follow the creative path and build careers around it, but the majority of people went in other directions.

Now what I believe is that everyone is creative! We were born that way. Some find other ways than painting to channel their creativity, but some just believe they can't and never give themselves the chance.

Intuitive Painting is a way of going back to that little Child we were in Kindy. With that blank canvas and no expectations. There are no mistakes, there is no control. If you end up hating it, just gesso over the painting and start again. Play, spatter, flick, scrape and spray! Watch the colour drip through each other and create beautiful iridescence.

If you appreciate art and colour, then you can create your own painting. Whether or not you end up hanging it or just using it therapeutically.

You will be doing that little Child inside you a big favour!

I am running an Intuitive/mixed media Workshop in seven weeks. Why not come along and have a play? With no rules or expectations! You do not need to have picked up a paint brush in years.

SPRING IS NEARLY HERE

Hi Everyone,

My last blog was back in June. I can't believe how much
has happened in three months. I have been very busy!
Just like the little bee in this painting. From my Oracle cards( Animal Voices).

June was my month for going back to being a Student.
I believe that all Tutors should be willing to learn new
and exciting techniques. We Artists are always evolving and growing. Otherwise we will become stagnant and
our art will reflect that. There are so many talented Tutors to learn from and appreciate. The Art world appears to be
going through a metamorphous at the moment. Much more freedom of expression than I have seen before.

One of the workshops I did was Paint Mojo with the lovely Tracy Verdugo. It was held down here on the Mornington Peninsula very close to home for me, at The Briars Mount Martha. I was joined by a couple of friends and we had a fabulous time. We were surrounded by other talented local artists and by the end of the weekend we had all made new friends.

Tracy introduced us to the beautiful Golden Fluid Acrylics. As we played with the first couple of layers I realised that indeed I have been painting "intuitively" all along. My backgrounds have always been done in this way and I have always had friends and family saying "we love it just like that".
Since then I have created several more paintings done just from relaxing and letting my background speak to me and let the images come out of my canvas. My students are now quite keen to create their own Intuitive paintings. I am teaching an "Intuitive/Mixed Media Workshop" on the 9th and 10th November 2013. Two days of letting go and having fun! Freedom and the removal of rules encourages artists to just let go of inhibitions and control. Challenging but once you try it, quite addictive.
For more info on this workshop you can go to my web page www.susanfarrellart.com.au

My workshops for the remainder of the year are nearly all full. We had the Chook Workshop on Sunday. Lots of quirky chooks were created! Everybody did so well!

Next month is the Koi Fish Workshop being held in Clayton. Then the Lorikeets in October and of course the Intuitive/Mixed media in November.
For more info please visit www.susanfarrellart.com.au
Busy times ahead!

My other news of course is the oracle cards "Animal Voices" will be out mid September.
They are now available to pre order through my web page and paypal.
I would be happy to personalise your Guide book.

Bye For Now!

Blog Two

Hi,

Just trying the Blog again. I am not very skilled at setting up things on the net as yet. And linking them to Facebook isn't as easy as it was with posterous. Slowly getting my head around it . The trouble is at my age I keep forgetting how I did it last time. Ha! Ha! How Old am I?

I can't believe how fast the year is going. I found out about an exciting 2 day workshop way back in January being held down here at Mount Martha in June. With the very talented Tracy Verdugo. Paint Mojo! When I first booked in it was  months away. Now it is only 2 weeks to go.
I am so excited! It will be lovely to be the student for a change. Learning lots of exciting new techniques.
Can't wait!

I have attached an image from my oracle card deck.
"Animal Voices". The element "Wood". The cards should be released by September. Stay tuned!

Bye For now!
